A Question for those experienced burners
I'm new to the CD copying/backing up scene and based on what I've read so far on copying newer games, it seems like it's a rather difficult ordeal. Is it possible to come out with an exact CD copy that works, without applying patches and doing all kinds of strange things each time you install the game or try to play it?
Thanks for your help. |

Very unlikely, you gotta look at it from a developers point of view..
Teams of 8-50 people design a game and put alot of time and money into it. They dont want people to copy thier work, so they try to implement some type of cd protection, to protect thier investment. Now I agree with this somewhat, but I personally like to make backups of my CD's, because they get messed up so easily, and when they put the cd protections there it hurts the people who actually bought the software as well as those trying to have an illegal copy.
Any type of software can and will be cracked if people want it. They dont look at it from this point of view, all they see is that people want thier software without paying for it, and all they believe in is Final Profit. So to answer your question, yes most games/software will need some type of crack to copy / disable cd #####s to activate/install/play etc etc. |

It takes two things for a perfect 1:1 copy:
a)hardware b)Software Older burners have problems with buffer overruns which cause errors during either the image creation or the cd creation...to conquere this many companies such as Acer (my preference) have created technologies that deal with this specific issue. The reason I like Acer is that their "Seamless Link" is built in to their firmware rather than it being an additional software that is separate...and it is fully successful. Second, programs like CloneCd deal with the issue by utilizing systems like "Seamless Link" to do a RAW burn of one type or another which will create a perfect image...Now the big question...do you have a burner that will use RAW and do you have software such as CloneCd? I have tried BlindSuite and CDRWin but I didn't like them...Clone Cd, especially the newest version works like a charm and is very simple to use. Go to their website at www.elaborate-bytes.com and take a peak at the cd burner list to see how yours will perform. They have recently updated the list...well sorta and it is relatively accurate. Good Luck!! |

Firstly, disregard most of what Double Tap has just posted.
Of course, a perfect copy relies upon hardware and software. However, RAW extraction and burning is down to your hardware of your drive. CloneCD and Blindwrite merely utilise the properties of newer readers and writers to extract the data of a CD without altering it (hence RAW, not COOKED). This has nothing to do with buffer underruns, which is when your burner runs out of data as it writes faster than your HD or reader can pass it on (which is what JustLINK, etc do). This is all about whether the firmware of your reader will attempt to correct the "errors" in the byte patterns on a CD as it reads them, and before it passes them to your copy software. So, if you have a RAW capable reader and burner, and a program that utilises this method of extraction, then all should be well. Sadly, it's a little more complicated than that due to subchannels within a CD's data structure (8 in total = 4Mb).The methods employed to protect a CD from copying can use these subchannels as well to prevent copying. I'm sorry but I really cannot be arsed to explain in great detail the different systems out there but if you do a little research then you'lll find many answers. What I will say is that your disc (swat3) is protected by safedisc 1 (i believe). This means you need a burner capable of DAO (disc at once) burning (means that the disc is written all at once with no gaps between the tracks). There is no requirement for subchannel data with safedisc 1. This is because SD1 relies upon errors on the CD to prevent copying. Thus as stated above, any reader capable of reading RAW and therefore not correcting these intentional errors, will copy safedisc 1. Phew. Anway, Dracos, here's a few tips for a newbie. 1. Go to gamecopyworld above and download Clony XL. This will identify the protection on a CD you want to copy and pass the read and write settings to CloneCD. 2. Indeed as Double Tap says, go to www.elaborate-bytes.com site and ##### to see if your writer is RAW DAO supported. 3. Forget "mode-2 cd image" etc. Use Clony and keep with it's settings for CloneCD And finally, please give as much info as you can about your set-up if you want more detailed help. I.e. we need to know what burner and software you are using. And if you're still all at sea, email me and I'll try to bring you up to speed. Laters all |

Again, mate, we need more info.
What burning programs do you have?? I think I'm right in saying that your HP 9100 is CloneCD compatible so forget the "mode 2" stuff as I said before and get CloneCD and Clony XL. All you need to do is click a few buttons and WHAM.......you'll have a working copy So... 1. go to ####://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_2.shtml#Clony and download CLONY XL 2. Get yourself a copy of CloneCD. You can get an evaluation copy from www.elaborate-bytes.com or you can search for a warez site that will give you a crack or patch for an earlier version of CloneCD. I cannot give you that info as it's against this forum's rules. I'm sure someone may help you if you get in touch........ |
