possible hardware problem?

I use a HP 9100 cdwriterand havent been able to back-up any games. This has all-ready cost me dearly in the form of a useless (cracked) ICEWINDALE playdisk.
I have blindread and write and still have problems. My bud thinks its my writer and recominded yall.
