Possible broken pioneer dvr A03?

I don't know what happened but for some reason the drive seems to have a problem reading dual layerd disks. When I put one in I hear a ticking sound like the laser moving around. The sound is more like a tapping noise then the normal reading sound. Then eventually after that sound stops, the drive speeds up and it works fine from there. Singe layered disks are working perfect. I don't know if this is a problem because I have had the drive for a week and have only been using it to read ps2 dvds which are single layered. I wouldn't think that the laser is dirty because it is new, but the way that it sounds is like the laser is having a problem reading it. Could a dirty laser only affect single layered disks?

Please reply back with suggestions. Thankz.

I think I replied to this on the other forum. Contac Pioneer because they vouch for their dual sided media.
