games for the ps2 are in black and white

could any one help me, i have just had my ps2 chiped and i have got a ar2 v2 cartridge. the problem is that some off the games are playing in black and white has any one got any ideas. please help thanks.

The Blaze Scart lead should sort this problem; presumably you are playing ntsc games on a pal tv

when u say a blaze scart lead will the scart lead that u get in the box not work. yes u were right i am trying to play ntsc games on a pal tv. thanks

Some of my games r in B/W as well but I've been told that it is because they are american and need a 60Hz TV and my PS2 is from the UK and only has a 50Hz TV. I have been told I can download patches from www.megagames.com which will sort the problem.

Sometimes the patches work; often they don't. Until I got a modern widescreen tv which resolves NTSC as well as PAL, I used an NTSC-PAL convertor from Maplin's to play NTSC games. But the BLAZE Scart lead will do the job, avialable from HMV in UK. There is a web site - search under BLAZE SCART.

actually, as long as your tv has a scart socket (any european tvs newer than ~10 years do), any rgb scart cable will work to get color, plus the picture quality will be improved greatly, compared to the standard AV cable. you can get rgb scart cables for psx/ps2 in any store that sells the system. I bought my current one from lik-sang when I ordered my origa, for 3 bucks, and it works great.

We had the same problem with NTSC backups. I was in process of getting a composite scart lead as opposed to the one that comes with the PS2 and I had the brilliant idea to try the one we had for the old PSX. It worked after a fashion but instead of getting B+W we now had everything green. Before giving up we went into the configuration of the PS2 before loading any games and changed the colour settings. The games then worked in full colour. hope this helps

1 What colour settings were changed from what to what?
2 How does it behave when a PAL game is played?
What TV do you have?

Do I detect a touch of sarcasm in your reply? I am at work at the moment and dont have access to my ps2 at the moment. I'll look later and see if I can get clearer answers
In reply to your questions :
1. we changed the settings from whatever it was on to the other option (I think from Y,X,Z(3 options cant remeber what they are) to RGB.
2.PAL games play fine too.
3. Its a fairly modern (<10 yrs)SONY TV

I can answer it as well.
what he used was a RGB cable (psx and ps2 cables are compatible).
in the system configuration under "component video out", you have to switch from "Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr" (component video, not used in europe) to "RGB".
all PAL and NTSC games will work in full color then, and in MUCH sharper quality than with the original composite cable too.
that doesn't apply to US TVs, as they don't have RGB inputs.

btw, stevem, I don't think he meant it sarcastic.. it's just rare that people actually report back when they solved problems, and how they did it.
