PS2 V5 booting problems

PS2 V5, Neo 2.2, AR2 2.02 - this is the system I have, and I have tried many many ways of booting backups. (thanks to people who have suggested methods) No booting methods have worked as yet. I have been told that the EA method does not work on the V5 model, and that booting is all about timing. I have tried closing the tray and pressing X when it is half shut, fully shut, partly shut. But none work. After listening to my PS2, it reads the backup then stops and after about 5 seconds you hear a 'clunk'. But with an original you can hear the disc constantly spinning. Anyone know an exact method of booting? Or is it just trial and error? Please help thanks. Also i can hear a 'beeping noise' when i listen closely to my PS2. (about two beeps).

Hi
Have same setup, works ok. i load ar2 start game press x, select without codes.next screen it asks you to insert cd, press eject swap cd, press eject & x same time, cd boots up. if this doesnt work use dvd region to boot if you have it on your version of ar2. insert ar2 press reset, at first menu select dvd region, you get a screen with 1>6 on dont select any press eject swap cd press eject , when shut press start button, back to first menu, select start game, then without codes, then press x on menu that asks you to swap cd [ dont swap], should bootup. hope this helps.

If you have a legal DVD Region X, then of course you shouldn't need to do the AR2 palaver to boot in a game via DVDRX.

Also EA games copied with CloneCD and a fully compatible reader/burner won't need any EA boot method. Just boot behinf DVDRX. If you've downloaded an EA game and have burned it with CDRWin and you have a v5 console, then Sony have caught up with you for now!

Charlie,

Total PS2 newbie here so pls pardon the fog <g>

OK, if I have the original disk and do a proper CloneCD backup (w/o any patches), it will boot without a mod chip? If so, I have GameShark 2 v1.9, will that work in lieu of DVDRX?

I assume the above is about CDR backups. What about DVD backups?? For those I'd need the OrigaChip you already told me about right?

(my console: SCPH-35001, Ser# U6)

No - you need an internal 8 wire modchip in conjunction with DVDRX.

It gets more complicated with DVDRs because now the version of your POS2 is important. v4 & v3 PS2s with NEO2.2 boot DVD-Rs with GS2/1.9. v5 PS2s with NEO2.5 DVD boot DVD-Rs with GS2/1.93. Origachip on US PS2 is unproven on v5 but v3/v4 uses DVDRX.

Good luck!!
