Newbie needs some answers

I have just started getting into copying games and I was wandering if anyone could help explains some things to me. First off, I was trying to backup my copy of star trek elite force with CDR win. I made an image to my harddisk like I normally do, but when i tried to write to a cd, it gave me some medium error(3:00.00x) or something along those lines. I thought it was a bad cdr so i tried it again and it didn't work. So I thought it might have been a bad image, so i did another image and another burn and same problem. I decided to use clonecd instead and it copied to the cd fine, but when i ran the setup, it says Pak3.0 could not be loaded and it shoots me out of setup. I decided to make another image and do another burn but I get the same error at the same spot again! I went through 5 cdrs trying to burn one game. Does anybody know why this happens, because i"ve had that medium error(3:00.00x) before with other games. My system specs are as follows:

T-bird 1.1 gigaherz
abit kt7a raid motheboard
256mb crucial cas 2 ram
ricoh cdrw 7060a 6x4x24 using verbatim premium 80 min cdr's
350 watt power suppply
maxtor 40 gig harddrive
