diablo II patch question?

I was playing diablo II with patch 1.02 and then i updated to patch 1.05b. Now I can play as my character i was using but it will not save. Does anybody know how to resolve this.

Is this with the original or cracked backup? If its the backup, install the new v1.05b crack.
