cybercop: please help !

i have copied my origianal copies of red alert 2 and no-one lives forever, using the latest version of cd clone. (giants runs ok)

the problem is that after making the back-up of the games, is that when i reboot the pc i get a message ala' direct x "system files are being updated" kind of message.
i then try to play the game but my pc then freezes and i have to re-boot several times before i can play the game.

nolf is'nt too bad but red alert 2 is very tempermentle ? and i've had to install the razor patch to make red alert 2 work.

my cd re-writer is a ricoh dvd/cd-rewriter
mp 960a-dp and is supposed to be compatible with cd clone( i am using the origianal firmware and will not upgrade as i have read that future firmware upgrades will not allow back-ups og games)

i do not know if this makes a difference but after patching nolf(with the latest game patch) just after i had made a working back-up, nolf asked me for the origianl disc?

i then removed nolf and re-installed the back -up of nolf.

ps. which cd clone demo works with these games and where cani get the demo's from?

cybercop: thanks for the info.. n i c e

i might be paronoid but i have checked my system for viruses but not one for trojans- i'm looking as soon as i post this.

i will try to remove direct x 8 but it is always a right pain in the bum hole when removing direct x-i have seen a link for a new version of direct x 8 un-installer on bluesnews or was it voodooextreme ?

i thought i'd opted for game files only when installing "giants" but direct x got on to my system anyway.. damm.

(i made a mistake with the model of my rich dvd player it is 9060a)

cybercop: i tried everything you suggested about getting rid of direct x 8.0.
re-installed win 98 and re-installed directx 7.0.

same problems, nolf plays once but after re-booting freezes when nolf screen comes up and everything locks up. i then re- boot and try nolf again and it then works. i will soon have to use the crack (for the uk version) .

i will try your tips on cd clone +reg fix stuff later, but what do you think i can do now to get nolf working prop without having to use the cracks- i only use cracks as a last resort?

so, has anyone else got any ideas on what is happening to my sys?

btw i played nolf several times today(re-booting 6 times) and using my re-writeable disc i could play nolf *without* it freezing on me, so no need to use a "crack"

am i getting better results because the cd- re writeable disc is a "silver" type and not the "blue" type ?
