neo4 won't read ps2 blue cd-roms
I just rented and copied ICO us-ntsc with clonecd with no protection settings.
My ps2 (us-ver. 4) reads the original as a ps1 game. It takes about 3-4 times for it to come up with the blue cd icon (ps2-cd-rom). The backup always comes up as a ps1 cd. I just chipped with neo4, everything ok before and after: audio and ps1 cd-r's and origs., ps2 dvds and dvd movie origs. (no dvdr's yet), mem cards and controllers but my ps2 is brand new and I don't have any other original ps2 blue cd-roms. I re-copied and used clonecd's protection settings and got the same result. Actually, the copies work, if I swap w\ the orig., they just won't boot by themselves. When it finally loads the orig. ICO, the laser makes noise like if it were a 5-year-old ps1! It makes the same noise with the backup. Any help greatly appreciated, thanx in advance...Later tried other ps2 blues (madden 2k2, ncaa 2k2, others) with same result. Should I tweak the laser? (calibration)...it's brand new though... |

On the browser screen all my Copied PS2 games also come up as PS1 games but they still boot OK . My machine is a PAL v4 with NEO4.Have you tried inserting the backup game into the tray & then pressing RESET to boot the disk directly from standby (this is how the NEO4 is meant to be used). If theres no difference here then the laser may well need calibrating, mine was calibrated with the chipping.I wouldn't recommend trying it yourself as its pretty east to knacker the laser eye or head settings.

It's a pity that the NEO4 site went away. Weren't there special EA type method instructions for EA games? And didn't they need a patch in some cases?

About the only NEO4 support page I could find although I should imagine you already know this info.

No, I didn't know about that other site, but thanx anyway.
Wildthing, I tried what you said, but it didn't work, thanx also. last night I tweaked the laser, still the same prob. ICO won't play until the ps2 gives me the blue cd icon. I have to open\close tray about 4-5 times. the backup has NEVER booted, although if I swap it's ok, so I know it's not the disc. At least I got my copy of Silent Hill to work by tweaking the laser, it was the only ps1 backup it didn't like. Also if I put an audio cd-r it comes up as a ps1 sometimes, but it does play as audio when it sees it as one. Well, I'm not going on anymore with this, I GIVE UP!!!!!! |

i have a neo 4 installed, and i found that if i dont patch all of my ea games i get the infamous black screen syndrome, so i use the universal patcher and they work fine, the trouble is finding the universal patcher now that all the sites have disappeared

ICO is not an EA title, although I tried an NCAA 2k2 game that I think IS EA which didn't work...
thanx anyway, I'll keep trying!
