A not-so-newbie wondering about burn times in Clone CD!!

And before you think it, I have figured much of it all out, because I've had a few days holiday off work and gone from Easy CD Creator 4 to CDRWin to Nero to CloneCD 2.8.3.1! Not bad for a newbie.

I've managed to backup ALL my games (including NHL2001, Halflife + Opp, AND RA2!) but found with my Sudden Strike (uk version) that it really does take aaages to read & write. 30 mins just to get to 2%!!! Though with the others it went faster after about 4%

Could someone here explain why those first few percentages take so long? Are they protection cd clusters or something <<Made that up>>?

And also if anyone has a TEAC CD-W54E CDRW then it works like a dream with CloneCD!! I'll post this in a title because I spent ages reading all these posts for info.

Kewl site, page, and forum!

usually when i copy psx or pc games it takes about twenty minutes to get to about 3% but after that it usually goes pretty fast i dont know if it is because the protection is at the start of some of the games u could try ticking the ignore read errors button if the protection is safedisc.it probably depends what type of protection is on the disc.

With safedisk the read errors i believe are before the first 5% of the disk so when that is passed it kicks in and reads fast.I used to have this prob, i used ddump for safedisk because my old burner did'nt work with clone. But i got a new cyclone (TDK) and it copies a safedisk in about 5 min read and 6min burn.Because it reads sub channel data properly i think. But i hav'nt tried safedisk 2 yet, hope this info helps abit cause i know how frustrating it is to wait a couple of hours to read a disk.

I have never had a CD take more than 24 minutes for both the read and write.

From newbie to apprentice!!! (CloneCD succuss!)

Thanks guys, it backed up fine. The problem seemed to be my using cheap 80min cd's. They were about the cheapest I could buy, now with a pack of cd's only a little more expensive I have found that EVERYTHING will backup just perfect!

Cybercop, you are right, with the right settings and the right cd reader/burner, you don't need any patches at all!! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones cos I bought my cdrw without even knowing much about it, it was a cheap drive in a second hand pc shop!!!

Oh and for anyone using cloneCD I recommend using the CloneCD database (in utilities section of GCW). It has saved me so much time and listed settings for the latest pc/ps games.
