PSX Backups - HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Okay, I'm using a US system w/ US games. I'm trying to backup some PSX games using CloneCD and a Lite-On 16x10x40 CD-RW. The two games I've tried so far are "Broken Helix" and "Colony Wars: Vengeance". They both get as far as the Playstation logo screen then they just freeze. Other games seem to copy just fine, but these don't, not even at 1x. I have checked megagames for a patch or instructions or something, to no avail. Can anybody help me?

Well, while I was waiting for a reply, I did just that. First I tried Nero, then DiscJuggler, then Cdrwin, then FireBurner. I get the same thing everytime. I must have wasted close to 20 cd-r's. I have found no info on the net about anybody else having trouble with these games. I just don't understand it.

Make a bin file with cdrwin, use default settings, Be sure error recovery is set to ABORT and raw is checked. Open fireburner, load cue sheet, Right click on the mode1 file and click check for corruption. If fireburner says the bin file is clean and you didnt get any errors cdrwin should copy it providing you havent used a crack serial to unlock the software.

Well, tried that. Still doesn't work. Broken Helix will get past the "Konami" credit screen, but locks up before the opening movie. Colony Wars Vengeance only comes up to the PSX logo and stays there forever. There's no pathces for these games, and I've tried backing them up on three different pc's with trree different burners and media. Maybe there should be a patch?

Dunno whether I can help but I can confirm that "Colony Wars Vengeance" (the PAL version at least) needs no crack - have copied this myself.
As you've tried different PCs, media, etc. I can only suggest that you try cleaning the original disc with isopropyl alcohol (Tape head cleaner) and a soft, dry cloth, remembering to wipe the disc from its centre outwards (and not round and round).
Hope this helps.

both games are unprotected. the only thing wrong is either your writer or the original cd.

Hmmm, well I'll give it a try and see if that'll fix it. They are both in pretty good condition, but you know how sometimes the smallest blemish on the surface will screw everything up.

Thanks guys!

I don't advise Isopropyl alcohol; some compounds are sensitive to that. I recommend warm soapy water.

As to the problem, do the originals from which you are copying play? If they do, CloneCD should copy them.

The originals play just fine. CloneCD will not work though. I've tried it time after time. I've cleaned the discs with a scratch remover kit, but still the same thing happens everytime.

Well, having read through the thread, I reckon your best next move is to make CloneCD work. SO what happens with CloneCD? What settings do you use?

Your Liteon 16x10x40: What is the formal model name?
When CloneCD sees the device, is the Read Sub-Channel Data text grey or black?

Amd now we know it's a PS2 (perhaps we should transfer this thread to the PS2 Forum), what modchip and/or boot method are you using? Do you have a PS1 memory card in one of the slots?
