What is NTSC and PAL stand for?

I am a beginner in this. Can someone tell me
what are NTSC and PAL stands for? Thanks

cant give a brilliant explanation but i will try
pal is uk spec imports are ntsc and some times only play black and white
not a brilliant answer but i hope it helps

PAL is the 625 line 50 cycles/sec TV standard used in Europe and most of the world

NTSC is the 525 line 60 cycles/sec TV standard used in North America and Japan.

As billydude says, sometimes NTSC games will play black and white or jitter on PAL TVs and vice versa
