psx backup burning problem

Most of the newer games I've tried to burn won't play in my psx. They get through black and white psx boot screens then the screen turns black. I hear really choppy noise but never see any graphics. This happened with SF3 and Tony Hawk3. Anyone have any ideas why they wouldn't play right? All of my older backups work fine.

I may be wrong but it might be something to do with a different kind of encription being used.
Do you use any kind of copy protection identifying utils?.
What burning software do you use?.
I use,and have been using, Nero 5 and CloneCD 3.0.9.1 and they have both been very good for me (touch wood!)
