Help with Silent Hill Backup - I'm stumped!

I've burned a copy of Silent Hill with Blindread/ Blindwrite. The copy works (it boots okay, and it plays in epsxe) - it's just that when playing the game, the vertical hold goes wacky. It's bascially unplayable (I dont feel like having a seizure). My console is 7500 model with an old-ass modship (not sure which one). I've tried both patches found on megagames. I'm currently looking for any other patches that may fix the problem, but I guess my main question is why it does this? Is this ANOTHER form of protection??

Sorry I didnt mention that I have used CLoneCD, Nero, Blindewrite/ Blindread and CDRWIN - all with the same results. I'm begining to think its the chip. I'm gonna run a switch to one of the wires to enable and diasble it to see if that works.
