Depends on your reader. High quality anti-jitter models like Yamah can read at maximum speed with 100% success for unmarked original media.

The problem is for scratched media. Slower read speeds improve the chances of avoiding a read failure - but you'll only be lucky if the media is superficially scratched.

If you set CDRWin to stop on read errors and if you are burning via the hard drive, you won't waste any CD-Rs if it reads without error. Burn at no more than 4X is best advice.

I tend to read @ MAX but also i tick the Stop on read error if i think the disc is at all scratched. That way you will never burn a coaster because of a faulty Source CD.

if you've only got the trial vers it will only read at 1x anyway, if you got the full vers i find it best to read at a slower speed 1,2or 4x

Hi,

Burn at a speed you feel you get better results from, i always burn at 2 x speed even though i could burn alot quicker then that, always had great results "so if it aint broke dont fix it!!!"

For best results, i use read at 4x and write at 2x, i can also burn at higher speeds but find a slower burn reduces problems with audio and FMV.

It may take a bit of trial and error for you to find the best speeds for your set up, but start slow and work your way up untill you are happy with the results.
