are some games uncopyable??

ive been having trouble copying some PSX games, Final Doom and some others, too. They arent new or anything. when the CD is being read it just stops at certain percent (same every time) and just stays there. it doesnt cancel it just reads at that point forever. any ideas or fixes?

thanx

If you get read errors using cdrwin or clone cd then the game is damaged. Try copying from a different original.

As Warlock mentioned the most common problem relating to read errors are dirty or damaged original disks!

You wont be able to get a full working backup of a disk that has errors during the read session even if you use a proggy like Fireburner that will carry on reading the disk instead of halting. Fireburner inserts Zeros for data that cannot be read, and no PSX game contains zeros.

You mentioned Final Doom, well this has no protection on it and you may be able to save your damaged original by using a special cd polish that can reduce the problems encountered with scratched disks. You should be able to get the polist from your local Hi/Fi agent.

the cd is copyable. but chances are it won't work properly. as for the locking up. the cd is damaged. if it was a computer cd is would have been copy protected. but you can bypass the copy protected for computer cd's. and unless the damaged cd can be repair with a scratch repair kit then you have to use another cd.

when you use blind read on a badly scratched cd's you are NOT getting a true copy of the game all you are doing is replacing the errors (there should NOT be any on psx games) so it may jump half way through or stop when playing it
YOU WILL NEVER GET A TRUE COPY OF A GAME WITH ERRORS

a burner will usually get stuck on a scratch, the lazer can not find the sector to continue if the scratch is too large. You can try polishing the disk to see if it improves other wise your out-of-luck!! I use CD Scratch Remover, I don't know who manufacturers it but it's like a car wax, rub a small amount on let dry and then polish with soft cloth.

backitup is wrong!!! blindread is good for games which only have a few errors! cdrwin will stop sometimes when there is just one tiny little error. it is a different story when games have 1000 errors. as long as there is no more than 10 corrupt sectors on a psx cd, it will work fine.

Hi,

If the Original CD your making backup from is in a bad scratched state which has errors on there is NO POINT trying to make a backup.

Cheers

Dal

I'm not sure that TheShadow got more than one thought/idea. So here are a couple more. (Sometimes the simple ones work).

1/
Wash the original CD in warm soapy water. Often works if the misread is due to dirt in a surface scratch. Too deep and the original is knacjered.

2/
If you have an original disk, then rent a copy of one in better condition from Blockbuster and copy that. Seems to me that keeps you more or less legal.

As it's a while since you started this thread - what's been happening?
