Compatibility prob with some CD's and writers ??

Hello to all board members !

Since I am new to this land of yours, I'll ask you a very simple question.

I just bought a LG 12x8x32x CD-RW. I can make backups of my PC games (usually with CloneCD) but I can't make a working backup for PSX.

With CloneCD, the image making stops at 4%. With Nero and CDRwin, I can make a copy since I see the files on the CD-R, but the CD-R doesnt boot on PSX. What the heck is wrong.

Could it be compatibility prob with the CD-R i use (Maxell) or my CD-RW ????

Forgot : All my games are NTSC (US)

I'm puzzled

I would suggest you try Verbatim or TDK Reflex discs, or you could try lowering the speed of your burn down to 2x and see if that works.

If all your games are ntsc is your psx pal if so go to megagames.com and download the ntsc to pal selector for the game you are copying sorry backing up clonecd wont work with us games an a pal machine. I dont think its your writer or your cdrs in my opinion its the source disk thats the problem.

Thanx for your answers.

But I have a NTSC (US) PSX console. Since all my games are NTSC as well, I really don't understand why I cant make backups.

Like I said, whether I try with CloneCD, Nero, or CDRWIn, my PSX doesnt boot the backups I make. I have tried burning in 4x, but still wont work.

What if I was to try copying from CD to CD, without the image ? I dont like doing it, but maybe it will work.

As for trying with other CD-R's, I'll try that too.

But are sure it cant be my LG writer. I'm thinking of exchanging it for a HP. Good idea ??

I have a Gold#### CD RW CED 8080B and it works fine with Clone CD to copy PSX games. I've tried it on Euro PAL, at 1x speed. The only problem I had at first was that I tried using a cdrw disc, after some good advice here, I've copied half a dozen - thanks BOT-CK for your help

I forgot to mention one thing with using CDRWin : Everytime I ##### the RAW option, as soon as I click on ####T RECORDING, a error message appears.

Does this mean that my LG CED-8120 burner is not compatib with CDRWin or RAW ?

That would be weird since my burner is RAW compatib with CloneCD (I #####ed at elaboratebytes.com)

Dunno, It may just be a problem in CD-R Win..CD-R Win may not think that yourt CD-R is compatiable with RAW!
I recommened using Memorex 80min, they work good with PC,Audio, PSX and PS2

Yes bazzaxx, my PSX is chipped. So I should be able to play backups.

first choose an original game that is quite old (1-2 year +) also make it a game that is not a main stream title (not by sony) and must be in good working condition (hardly any scratches).
All these parameters make it a good candidate for easy first time copying. I did my first ever back up using the Wipeout 1 game.
Now use clone cd. look at the post titled 'problem with cd clone' this will tell u on which settings to use.. If all this does not work then it could be your cd writer.
ps. Have you tried other copied games on ur psx that u have not done (ie- a friends game) if the psx doesnt load the game but it loads on ur friends machine then its your chip or your psx laser needs Calibrating!

Well bezzaxx, truth is that my friend came over my place with a few of his copies games.

Guess what : they all boot on my PSX. So its not my PSX laser or my modchip.

Tonight or tomorrow, I'll try exchanging my LG writer for a HP or a Yamaha. It I still can't copy my games after that, I'll be desperate.

ANY MORE IDEAS ON WHAT IT COULD BE ???

Hi,

I have a Hp 8200i writer and have had no problems burning PSX backups using clone cd, the only thing i always make sure is that i have nothing else running on my pc and i only burn at 4 speed.
(have a faster HP writer at work still burn at 4 speed)

But i hear some people can make backups at 12 speed, i guess its just personal prefrence.

Good Luck and keep us updated

Cabral.... try using TDK media, LG's are notorious for being fussy with media.

If you going to return your burner for an exchange then either get an HP or the Ricoh MP7083A-DP or SK as this unit us 100% compatable with CloneCD its also cheap between £70 and £80.

Best of luck

Well I want to thank you all for your answers and suggestions.

I finally gave up on the LG writer. I did an exchange for the HP 8230e USB external writer. I know HP's are quite average burners but it's external, which means no more f***ing with IDE connectors, etc.

So far, I was able to make my first PSX copy of my old game Tenchu. I used CloneCD at 1 or 2x.

Geee, that was loooong ! I know the original is scratched a lot (I got it used) but damn, it took 1.5 hour to both read and burn the CD !!!!!

I know th HP 8230e is 4x4x6x, but still. It's a joke. If it's always that long, forget it. At the store, there was a Yamaha IDE 16x10x40x. What do you guys think ???

This could be my 3rd writer in three weeks !!!!
Who said copying PSX games was easy ?? I find PC games much easier.

Let me know.
