Help! `LOAD DISC' command failed...

Can anyone help a novice PS2 backup using CDRWIN 3.8. Cannot get past this message when I insert a game to backup.
Error: `LOAD DISC' command failed on device 0:0:0 Device contains no disc or is not ready (04h 00h 02h 02h 3Ah 00h).
All I want to do is copy a game-where am I going wrong?

Chances are you're putting a DVD into the CD drive

No, it's definately a CD. it was GTA3 on PS2.

GTA3 is a DVD game unless it's a rip to CD. In that case:

a Does Windows Explorer see the CD?
b Is CDRWin licensed or in demo date and not a cracked version?
c Have you downloaded CDCHECK (from CDR-INFO) to test the CD?
