Playing ps2 backups with just a Gameshark 2 v.1.4?

Has anyone played a ps2 backup just using a game shark 2 and the swap method........or do you still have 2 have the modchip installed also?

No you dont just #####out www.ps2ownz.com and ##### out the knife/cog swap so far the only one that ive run into was quake3 that really relied on the chip but it can be patched
