very basic question

Stop me if I'm wrong here. As I am understanding this, you can copy PS2 games from the original, if they are on regular cd media. However, some of the games are on dvd media, and they have to be converted, then ripped onto cd media. Am I even close on that one? My question arises from the fact that I have been told that some ps2 games can be copied from the original like the old ps, however some must be ripped from isos like DC. Also, it seems like the newer ps2 games are harder to come by than new DC games used to be. Is it tougher to convert them? For instance, when NBA2k2 came out for DC, the backup version was available on many sites that week. However, games like the new 007, metal gear 2, and the new WWF wrestling game (which have been out for about a month) aren't available yet for PS2. Anyone have any ideas about why this is? I know I just asked a mouthful, but I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Eric

You don't make yourself terribly clear but if you're alluding to downloads of the latest games being available, then no comment. The latest games that you mentioned are on hire, of course.

Your DVD rip assumptions are correct. Search the forum on the topic "DVD Rip".

I probably don't make myself terribly clear because I don't really know what I'm talking about.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say the latest games are "on hire."
I was actually asking if the games were somehow harder to rip than DC games, leading to the longer turnaround time for the new games being available on backup websites.
Thanks for your input, Charlie.

Right - gotcha. Well Sony and their games partners have learned a lot from the DC and similar experiences and they do encrypt many of their games. However copy programs stay up with this and I've seen no reported defeats of the PrimoDVD nor CloneCD software.

The PS2 DVD game rip process is convoluted and time consuming but when you've done it once, you have a fairly straightforward repeat task with differences on the next. But time is money and I'm not sure it's that profitable to rip DVDs to a downloadable cd-size file.
