Mod Chip vs. Plug Mod ??

Quick question, any help would be much appreciated...
I recently bought 5 backups from a guy online, and only one of them worked. They aren't Verbatims, and they won't even load up. All my other backups are on Verbatim DataLife CD-Rs, and they work just fine. I'm using a Plug Mod (Action Replay), not an internal mod chip, and when I told the guy this, he said that his website states that I need a mod chip to play the backups sold on his site.

Is there really that big of a difference between the two mods?

Or did I just get some shoddy backups, and the guy is weaseling out of responsibility?

If anyone out there has a mod-chipped 5501 PSX, and would like 4 free games (MTV Music Generator, Metal Slug, Ace Combat 3, and The Next Tetris), I'd love to send them to you, to see if they really do work on a mod-chipped system. Just reply here with your email address.

Thanks for your time, everyone.

Well there are issues with the plug mod and most would recommend an internal mod chip (But each one has pro's and con's). Plug mod's may not work with some games and can affect other in different ways, such as memory card problems, but i find it hard to believe that 4 out of 5 games refused to load!

There are many other reasons reasons for this, the burner, the media, the recording software, the recording speed, the system set up and even the psx itself, but you said that all you other backups work fine so its probably not your PSX.

Looks like you've been a victim of shoddy workman ship!

Just one question?

COPYRIGHT laws have you heard of them I know everyone on these forums makes back-ups for themselves and occasionally there mates but isnt it a bit risky buying ILLEGAL games over the net.

Also if the bloke is willing to break the law and sell on his back-ups then its very likly that he wont except responsiblity for dodgy games ( it not like you can goto the trading standards is it ).

Not to sound to much like your Mum/Dad, Unlucky with your purchase and hope you've learnt your lesson.

Happy buring in the future!!!!!!!

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A PLUG MOD! I USED THEM FOR YEARS AND I HAVE A PSX WITH PLUG MOD,PS1 WITH MOD CHIP,PS2 WITH NEO KEY AND THEY ALL WORK GREAT. JUST PUT THE DISC IN THE COMPUTER AND MAKE SURE THERE IS SOMETHING ON THE DISC. IF EVERY THING OK USE CDR WIN AND MAKE A IMAGE AND REBURN WITH YOUR CDR. I HAD TO DO THIS WITH A PS2 GAME I JUST GOT OFF THE NET AND IT DIDNT WORK WHEN I GOT IT SO I REBURNED IT WITH MY CDR AND IT WORKS GREAT. ALSO GET A Q TIP WITH ALCHOL AND CLEAN YOUR LASER. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I've had probs with Knockout kings.
It wouldn't boot on my plug in mod PSX, but would on my other internal modded PSX.

of course it wont boot from a back up, u have to make the psx think the disk lid has not been opened by using a spring/pen wait for the original disc to stop spinning swap with the backup and there u go!!!!!!!!
