if you live in the uk your psx would be a pal so if you play a ntsc game in it it will be in black & white (if you don't us a scart lead or a boot disc or something like that) ntsc is from U.S.A

most modern tv especaiaily jap tv are multi-sync so they can play both ntsc has a refresh rate of 60 hz (us and jap electric is 110v 60hz) but has less lines 580 (something like that) and pal has 635 lines but at 50 hz so u can get more on a pal tv but a less frequent refresh rate thats why u can see the tv flickering a little when u get really close there is another tv system called secam think its a asian/russian tv system u dont see many tv/video player with that though..Rob
