Not really. Ever heard of the LH swap trick. It requires no modchip and works just fine. Go to www.ps2ownz.com for the specifics. I myself have a Neo2 installed and it works great, don't be afraid 'cause it's worth it.

This is true,it does work but before i would take my PS2 apart and have to leave it apart to play backups i would install a modchip first!

Why don't you just use the knife method, its so much easier than LH, and doesn't void your warrenty. Get a GS from v1.0-1.3 preff. 1.3. I don't have to patch any games. a modchip is NOT required to play backups, I play my backups everyday without ever opening my ps2 or sodering.

this is what you do.go to www.modchipz.com and get a neo key! $35.00 free shipping.i just got mine and works great! next order the gs2 upgrade to the 1.4 that is free! the neo key plugs into the usb ports on the ps2 and you have to soder 1 wire for the jumper and the diagram is on the web site and where you soder is right above the usb ports once you soder that wire thats it! it took me about 10min and i was playing backups trust me i never moded a psx or ps2 and it was easy for me. i alway used a game hunter for my psx. ##### it out!!!!!!!!!
