Graphic glitches with Catalyst 10.9 (HD4650) and some games
Hi guys. I'll post my problem here with the hope I'm not the only one with this problem.
In the beginning I thought my videocard got burned (like what already happened in the past) but after 10 minutes of 0 artefacts using ati tray tools I'm a bit more relaxed. This happens with some (usually old games): the image flickers, just like old image frames only partially disappeared, and some squares appear on the screen. I suspect it's a catalyst bug. Please post your experiences. Edit: I don't think it's overheating because my card got pretty low temps and the games are not gpu intensive. Last edited by Myloch; 20-09-2010 at 08:23. |

Ohhh, you cannot play older games on nVidia Geforces with newer ForceWare releases either...
![]() In particular, I wanted to play (again) with Blood 2 many years ago but already the main menu screen kept flickering. (Double buffering problem, I think.) I even "uninstalled" (read: manually eradicated, with lots of work) the back then current version of DirectX and installed an older one, only to find out that the problem remained the same. I haven't tried my own suggestion yet but it would be: install Windows 95/98/98SE within an emulated machine (VMware, Virtual PC, whatever), install old(er) drivers and then you'll be able to play your old Windows games. (Just like DOSBox helps with DOS games.)

lol and I don't want to talk about those Dynamic games I bought ten years ago in a newsstand with lockblocks protection that my new dvd reader cannot read.
![]() About Blood2, I tried installing it on 2 systems: a pentium4 with xp sp3/radeon hd4650 and a centrino2 with geforce 9600m gt and vista 32bit. In the first one the game works well until main menu (no graphic problems) but the game crashes to desktop when starting a new game using max video resolution "error in client MFC application, application will be closed" (I wonder why starting the game in 640x480 and then changing to 1280x1024 using ingame menu causes no crash). In the second one it works perfectly. |
