Assassins Creed II DRM has been comprised by Ubisoft

Problems with the new assassins creed II in which you need to be connected to the internet at times when playing the game due to the wonderful effects UBisoft has done it again DRM
If you do not have the internet i guess you cant save your games at any point
My research has also found that Ubisoft has defended their copy protection DRM which plagues us in time to come
If you want it badly i guess you can purchased on STEAM or retail enjoy
I dont have any fascinating thoughts on Ubisoft and their silly ways competing against piracy
I will not be buying a product in which comprise our peace and tranquility
Be good

this was well covered before the game was out, same stands for silent hunter 5 too, so your 'research' wasn't too good.

And (to me) it seems that you're just jumping on the old bandwagon which i commonly call the 'we hate this drm but dont know why, but our friends hate it, so we are 1337 as a group, e-penis ++'... (one day i will shorten the description, but for now it speaks volumes)..

the drm does require an internet connection when playing, if the connection drops, the game dies, there's no point crying about it because ubi made this information public knowledge WELL BEFORE the game(s) went on retail.

i am also guessing your research did not involve buying a copy of either of the games to test, and its just based on some forum posts, some googling and a mix of bullshit thrown in for good measure...

me, i WILL be buying it, to analyse it, to disassemble it, to see exactly what it does, ... why? because i don't rely on posts on the internet as being 'the truth'... i'm more the scientist type than the 'ooo panic because deathbollocks123 said this drm is evil'...

Personally, I don't think it's that bad. Most people will have an internet connection, and most will have it most of the time for that matter. If you lose connection, you won't lose your progress. On resuming you will start off exactly where you left off. Go play another game in the mean time or do something else. It's very unobstrusive in that the Ubisoft game launcher only actually launches when you go to play. No background services/programs or any other system-level changes are required.

You can save your games locally as well as the default method of online saving, despite common opinion. Yes, you still need to be connected to the web, but the option is there, even if it seems a bit redundant. I reckon this is much better than their old methods of limited-activations and SecuROM-style DRM means.

I think having weighed it up, I'd much rather just let it check an account over the web, as opposed to having to put a disc in as well. For one thing it's just so much quicker and easier. One less thing to think about. What annoys me is when people complain about something when not having even experienced it first-hand. So at least get it and test it before forming an opinion. I'm certainly in agreement with Tip there. And I can certainly understand Ubi better wanting to protect the software they publish. You can clearly see why they are trying this, with disc-based protections completely failing and PC-piracy rife. Props to them for trying new methods unlike some companies.

If the authentication (or whatever) server goes down like 2/5/10 years later, you won't be able to play you "oldie but goldie" game anymore. If I have it, I want to have it on my PC/shelf completely, not a single component anywhere else.

Tipper X where ever you are working or not you made a valued point but my understanding remember Starforce the problems we have had in the past
Ubisoft made a promise a long time ago never to put protection of such blantant stupidity and not so complicated this is a beginning and the end
My friends who do not trust the internet and will not how do you know that big brother is not watching you at this moment he is BE VERY WORRIED
But to my thoughts i guess this world doesnt use common sense greed is problem that is why the world will end very soon
Negative you may say NOTTED

i hear you, but i think ubi + starforce is a sort of different scenario, i think this 'solution' they are using will fall flat on its face, they developed it with no obfuscation, no encryption, and used 3rd party libs on the communication (i remember seeing some zip lib in there.. not zlib or gzip, but similar).. and they're getting ddos'ed at the moment, which is always a huge problem for this sort of drm 'solution'..

i merely tried to point out that jumping on the bandwagon really achieves nothing, time will tell for this protection, but judging from the 'feedback' ubi are getting, i'd say this drm might be short lived indeed...

and i totally agree with joe about the future, with the servers gone etc.. but apparently ubi said if this happens an unprotected exe will be released (sunsetting i guess)... that, remains to be seen..

the thing that amazes me is that they are pushing this on NON multiplayer games (at least in the 2 i saw, and i don't think ac2 is multiplayer), which sort of defies logic...

It is annoying about them doing this onto SP games. SP games which some people may buy due to the fact that they aren't able to play MP games (perhaps because of internet issues, or lack of a connection). Agreed.

As for the servers going down thing, they wouldn't just leave users hanging like that. I'm sure they'll release some sort of an update that will remove the DRM. Perhaps this will happen sooner than people think, once the initial peak-sales period has passed. Remains to be seen I suppose.

I bought it myself and analysed it a little bit (less playing then alanylsing ), i think it'll be very hard to make a working crack for this in a nutshell. As i mentioned before, the Game itself is syncing some game files (save, checkpoint save) everytime you do an action (visit store, buy something, game sequence, ingame-changes, etc.).
First you've to play the Game to end with all possible actions you can do, and meanwhile you've to log... - then possible rebuild? which takes a long time.

Silent Hunter 5 for example is the same copyprotection, but have totaly other triggers..and the SKIDROW Crack is really bad...(old beta exe with pointer unfixed, no IAT match, wrong entry=wrong results...)

It's absolutely a good Game, i got it cheap, if not, i didn't buy it.
Quite a lot of fun, way better than AC1, every mission differs, etc. - playing since a few hours, making a break atm

Seems like EA got on the boat too for C&C4. Constant internet connection required to play.
