NEO 2 Playstation 2 back up?

Hello,

Is it necessary to still back up playstation 2 games with a patch if u have a neo 2 installed or was this only necessary for the old swap trick?

Can i just do a normal copy without applying a patch if i have a neo 2 installed?

I have a neo2 also and a USA PS2 v1 board, I have backed up my
SSX, R2R2, and a couple of others and they work fine with out a patch...(using the EA - GS2 boot up only) I have not got any backups to boot using the 2 to 4 sec reset button and GS2 cd way. hope this helps
