How to switch from analog to digital control settings on PS 2?

I have recently bought a Sony Playstation 2 and this is my first ever gaming console and I have got some questions regarding the PS 2 dual shock analog controller. I am facing trouble playing with analog controller and I would like to know how can I switch from analog to digital mode... because when I press the analog button the red light does not turns off!!!! And I think that if the red light is not turning off then the analog controller is still activated.

So what I would like to know whether the red light turns off when the controller is switched to the digital mode from analog or does it always remains lit??

Well if the red light should turn off when switched to digital mode from analog then some thing is wrong with my controller as the red light is always turned on on my controller as soon as I turn on my console.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this... as I find it really hard to play some games with analog

Hi Mad.

I have playstation 1.FF7 came out on the PS. The PS1 originally did not have analog controls on its controller when that game was released. That's the only explanation I can think of. Funny how quickly we forget that the PS1 didn't have analog...it almost seems like it has been forever that we've had the Dualshock controller.
