To patch or not to patch........

I've asked this question elsewhere but I am still not sure of the answer. I downloaded a database that shows if games are protected and it appears to me that most are not, so why is there so much patching going on? Am I missing something? In a previous thread I read, Patching a ANY GAME in a PS ONE With a MODCHIP from MODCHIP.com, the game being patched was die hard trilogy 2, now my database does not show that as protected so why the patch? I have backed up two games so far just by using Nero 5 (smackdown 2 & GTA). Now smackdown is a current game but there was no need for any patching I just selected the File>CD copy and followed the suggested settings and it all worked fine.

Stick your database where it hurts!
If you actually managed to copy some games with Nero then you are lucky.
There are enough posts on this forum that a person of even moderate intelligence would have been able to understand the need for patches, and that some games need them.
Just a word of advice - the first post you post that you copied a game with Nero and it did not work will be your last.
I suggest that you do some reading and research for yourself rather than just posting.

I thought that the idea of these forums was to share knowledge but I guess you don’t agree. There have been some very helpful people on this forum and I have read a lot and now understand much more but do not understand the need for all the patches although I will find out. Sorry that my post annoyed you so much that you felt the need for your reply. Thanks anyway to those that did help I will try and refrain from any more posts and will just read!

One gets totally fed up with the dozens of stupid posts that need to be deleted every day - and all for the fact that people are too bloody lazy to even try looking for themselves!
There are ample posts here about problems with certain games that need to be patched and the results they give when not patched.
For that reason there is a search button provided and also the stipulation, at time of registering, that people read other posts and use the search function first.

I have been reading as much as I can but fair point. I did use your search function when I first started on this forum and it works very well. The first problem I had was with Grand Theft Auto and after searching I found someone with a similar problem and that was where my first post was. After the replies from some very nice helpful people I soon found that it was nothing to do with needing patches but more a case of buffer under run. After more reading on the subject I worked that one out.

I tried searching to find out why all the patching when most games appear to have no protections but I couldn’t work that one out. Ok I was a bit naughty with future posts as I soon realised that the knowledge of your users was way beyond me (a complete novice / idiot!) I wanted to find out more and take a shortcut (smacked wrists). I will read, read, read, from now on but please excuse me the odd post.

Do some reading here - http://www.geocities.com/psxcplist/
This site has listings of PSX games, those that do and those that do not need patches.
Lately they are also including the problems that these games have - i.e. the need for the patch.
