I bought the Enhanced Edition thinking (yea, naive when we're talking about Atari I know) that it would be DRM-free so I was furious to find out that it used Tages.

As far as I can tell, there is no patch currently for Witcher EE (it is already at 1.4, the 1.4 patch is for non-EE users to upgrade to EE) so I would suggest/ask/plead that a no-CD/DVD fix be considered within GCW's remit.

There's a crack/noDVD if you search GCW.

Although this game have Tàges and is not a DRM protection since you can install the game whenever you like (5, 10, 100 times) and it doesn't access internet unless you check for updates.
DRM is used for on-line activation or on-line check (after activation every n times you start the game). This game is not that case.

There's no entry for Witcher in GCW's games list and a Google search doesn't turn up anything for the Enhanced Edition (which is version 1.4). Care to supply a direct link?

This may be an issue of semantics but DRM (Digital Rights Management) covers anything that limits or affects a consumer's ability to enjoy their purchase. I consider CD/DVD checks to be DRM since they stop you from playing the game if your media gets damaged.

It's in that list. Search carefully.

It's your definition.
Remember when you buy a car to ask the dealer you don't want to refill the gas tank or change tyres because that's DRM (affects the ability to enjoy your purchased car) even if the dealer or the manufacturer doesn't control when you do it.
A CD/DVD Check doesn't limit you to play. Doesn't connect to internet. Doesn't require login/password.
If you are very interested in keep you original DVD unscratched then you can create a image of the media using specific tools like Alcohol 120%.

Ah - it's listed under T rather than W. Silly me for not checking the definite article.

Well it does if media is damaged, the CD/DVD drive/OS/software setup isn't "compatible" or if a user is running anything that the CD-check deems to be "subversive".

Unfortunately, Alcohol 120% (and Daemon Tools) requires online activation - using it to bypass a CD check is, as far as I'm concerned, a bit like choosing to swallow a knife to cure a sore throat. Otherwise I'd have purchased Daemon Tools a long time ago.

Can you use witcher executable taken from game that was upated into EE and put it into full installation of EE edition and thus removing the need for dvd in drive to play the game? Are they same version?

The Witcher + Patch v1.4 = 1.4.5.1282
The Witcher Enhanced Edition = 1.4.5.1280
You can try.

So far the Enhanced Editions Retail DVDs are protected by SolidShield, or StarForce, or TAGES, according to region. Correct? What protection has the European/English version of the Retail/Boxed Enhanced Edition? I'm interested in buying it, but I want to know if there is a crack for the European/English version. I don't want to give 40 or 50 Euros, without knowing this.

You should realise that 95% of people that use GCW havent bought their games. :P

Pirated copies are already cracked so anyone using them wouldn't need to visit GCW. Only users with a legitimate copy do.

You wouldn't happen to work for Atari, EA or Ubisoft by any chance would you?

Ehm no, they dont work just by installing and starting game.
You need crack allways.

You cant really believe that all people visiting gamecopyworld to find crack, have legal version of their games?
Im sure most havent bought the games.
