Back to Basics

I have just bought a creative blaster cdrw and though that I would have a go at making some backup copies of Playstation games.

I have done two successfully using the software that come with it, Nero 5 but now I hear all about patches clones etc what's it all about?

If a game is protected then I need a patch, but what is CloneCD? I understand that with this I do not need to worry about patches.

Then there is CDRwin, what would I need this for? It all seems very easy just copying these using Nero 5, why cant I do them all this way?

nero 5 is a good software for copying its just as good as cdrwin and you can patch with nero so you may not need cdrwin as for cd clone its not fully compatible with that writer to get the best out cd clone its got to be 100% compatible so if you like nero 5 stay with it

thanks canu you are very helpful on this board - how can I find out how to patch with nero just in case the need arises although from what I can see of the games I've looked at very few seem to need these patches.

BOT is on a distinguished road
You CANNOT patch using NERO.
The patches are written to be applied to .bin files which are created by either CDRWin (the original PSX game copier) or Blindread.

you patch in the same way as if you are using cdrwin you get the patches from megagames.com there some other sites. but megagames.com is the best go to this and download pff-o-matic http://www.ppaholmes.homestead.com/News.html it will help you to patch a game just read the help file

But I don't want to uninstall Nero as I find it decent software and use it all the time. I think I will just give cdrwin a miss if it can do serious damage then I think it's software best left alone.

THIS IS ALL YOU NEED

you need CDRWIN and PPF-O-Matic u can find them at www.megagames.com at Playstation/patches
In the CDRWIN - CDROM Recording Tools window click Extract Disc/Tracks/Sectors to Image File....Settings:
Extract Modeisc Image/cuesheet
CD.reader:choose your burner,its best.
Image file:C:\TEMP\image.bin
Reading Option:RAW
Error Recovery:Ignore
Jitter Correctionisable
Subcode Analysisisable
Data Speed:MAX
Audio Speed:MAX
Read Retry Count:0
Subcode Threshold:300
now press START.

When ur PC is done reading and saving on ur harddisk now close the CDRWIN and open WinZip
I hope u know how to use WInZip.Extract the PPF into the C:\TEMP and close the WinZip.

Now open PPF-O-Matic and find ur Image at C:\TEMP\image and press enter, now find Your PPF file that's in C:\TEMP and press enter.

When ur done,press APPLY.
Now your game is patched.Close PPF-O-Matic and open CDRWIN again and select Record Disc.
