DC is DC and PS2 is PS2. The JAP PS2 I have has a boot disk v1.01 and the latest version is v2.01. It's purpose is to introduce PS2 utilities such as the loading of DVD drivers. I'm not sure what the latest JAP machines use because, of course, ALL PS2s will boot their regional games without needing another type of boot disk.

Then there is a different class of boot disk:

a) Action Replay/Gameshark which allows cheat codes to be set up in memory before hauling in the relevant game behind it

b) DVD Region X which allows you to choose another region for playing DVD Video

c) Memory Manager 16 which allows you to establish a 16MB memory card before hauling in any game behind it

All of the above mentioned boot disks WHEN USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A MOD CHIP will provide the necessary authentic boot process before hauling in a CD game copied with CloneCD (CD).
