What is it, why do I need it and where do I get it?

Also, please answer query re: N2O Nitrous Oxide. Do I need a patch to back up PAL version?

The ppf patcher is a patch engine that allows you to apply ppf patches to games that are protected before you burn them to cd, this bypasses the protection and allows you to play the backup copy.
As for N2O, visit ####://www.psxcopyworld.com
for an a-z list of patches, if a patch is required, then you'll find it here.
