Grand theft auto is a non protected game for Pal version so al you have to do is copy it. There is no need for any patch, just use a normal CD recordable any burn. I always use speedsetting 2X (CDRwin) for write and MAX for read, because I have a IDE writer not the good stuff like Plex.

I use a plextor W1210TA so it should be pretty simular to yours appart from the fact that mine isnt a SCSI. The best two programs I've used are Cdrwin and Clone CD. If a game has to have a patch I use Cdrwin to extract the tracks and create a bin file, then use a patch maker to (from gamecopyworld.com) and then load the cue sheet. If the game isnt protected I use Clone CD (free version also available at gamecopyworld) Just make sure you have nothing else running in the backround as this could cause buffer underun, unless your plex has burn proof. One other thing which doesnt get mentioned is this, I copied games about six months ago and at the time none of them worked. I've just found out that sometimes the lens on the playstation can drop and not read the copies very well, to get out of this I turn my psx on its side, sounds stupid but it works, try standing it on its side like the way the psx2 stands and see if that works. The games I burnt six months ago which didnt work at the time work for me now just by changing the position of the playstation. Or some people say that by turning them upsidedown also works, just if a try, if you want to know the exact setting I use feel free to e-mail me.

I burnt my first Copy of a Playstation game Smackdown 2 with no problems it worked fine but my second attempt was with Grand Theft Auto and it copied to my h/d but as soon as it started to burn the CD it failed. I have heard stories about protections and patches that are required for certain games but don’t understand all that yet so I thought I would leave it until I understood it all. The posts here say that there is no protection on GTA so maybe I should try it again as I was trying to do other things on my PC during the coping process maybe that was not a good idea?

I don’t even know what plextor is! Anyway it must have been a case of buffer under run because I tried the copy again and it works fine this time. What is a plextor? I am new to all this! If I do try to copy games that are protected where do I get the patches and how do I use these? Is there a good site you could direct me to where I can read up on all this? Thanks for your help.

plextor is one of best writers as for patching games you get patchs from megagames.com but if you use cd clone you don't need to patch go to this site http://www.ppaholmes.homestead.com/News.html it will tell you what you need to know

Thanks canu yes an excellent site but I am still a lilttle confused. If you don't need patches when using CloneCD then why would you want to use the CDRwin software also detailed on that site? Are you saying that you never need the patches as one person on what looks like a new forum on that site says the following:- "Having probs copying southpark rally
Use CDclone - but game jams on title screen, do i need a patch??
help!!"

to get cd clone to work plob its got to be 100% compat and its only compat with a few writers so everybody use cdrwin its the best if cd clone is not compat i use both cd clone and cdrwin i use cdrwin for patching games into pal from ntsc
