New PSOne modchip but backups not playing

I just got my newly modchipped PSOne back from ModChipUSA and it plays my regular games fine but not the two backups I made with Fireburner.

First thing I get is a grey screen with a grid background and an option to choose memory card (there isn't one) or CD. I can pick CD, then the next screen has a bunch of controls that look like they're for audio playback. I can't select anything other than Exit.

Any clues what I might have done wrong. I'm not handy with a soldering iron, especially in something this small, so I had ModChipUSA do the install. They claim it was tested with regular games and backups so I imagine I've done something wrong with the burn.

TIA

what games are the backups, they may be protected and need patching or the type of media u are using could be a problem. what type of burner are u using.

From www.modchipusa.com you'll get their current stealth modchip, which works too in psone models.
But only in a generic 4 wire connection, so the chip couldn't provide "stealth tech" for the psone !!!
So the only thing that happens now is that self-burned games (cdr) are no longer refused by your psone with this "please insert a sony playstation disk" screen.

Many advertisements for psone modchips are like the offer from modchipusa, because they want to make you think that you'll get "stealth-tech" for your bucks !!!

Real "stealth" or "anti-mod-intelligence" solutions are a little bit more costly than the 12c508/509 models, but they are available now.
Have a look at www.channeltechnology.com , www.psxonechip.com or in future: www.einstein-mods.com .

Many games now try to detect if there is a modchip installed, for example by accessing the invalid sectors on a genuine cd directly a second time (but there are further "tricks" to check this). Then some games stop immediately.... others let you play only one level or such things....

With stealth technology, some simple ways to detect the modchip fail (so the game won't recognize it). But for the tricky detection mechanisms the stealth functionality fails and the game is able to detect this.
The product from channeltech supposes that even the tricky-ones will fail.... but who knows if there isn't another new way to detect the so called modchip...

It's pretty clear now that some games (the ones with copy protection) won't work now at your psone. But there are working patches/fixes available for a lot of games....
