Getting around Fate's CD requirement

I bought the game, Fate, from gamestop.
What sucks, of course, is that it requires the cd in to play.
Well, I found that if I downloaded and installed the bonus content download, it also includes a file, fate-wt.exe.

The file will load up fate without the cd having to be in the drive.

One other thing, I notice the fate.exe no longer works, it just errors out.

Also, my version is 1.21a, just for the record.

I guess I could upload the file to gamecopyworld. (can't find any place to submit new files.)

This game is pretty fun. It's like a modern nethack. It's says on the box it's a game you can play for 15 minutes or hours. Sorry, you try to play it for 15 minutes and the next thing you know an hour has gone by. =)

Perhaps, the original EXE crashes because the bonus content changes some files so much that the EXE cannot cope with it... (?)

After I installed the bonus content, it changed the links to point to the fate-wt.exe file.

It must be because the bonus content is for all version and only the store box version need the cd to play, so I guess they just decided to make it the same for them all. Which is fine by me, I hate having to put cd/dvd's in for games I buy.

This game is addicting so far. It's something similar to a game/mod i've wanted to make for awhile. I've been into nethack since way back when, and while the graphical updates people did have been decent, nothing decently moderate have been done.

I always felt the if they had taken the time to make Diablo II's dungeons truly random, it could of made a great nethack game/mod.

I've only had it for 2 days now and have only probably put 3 hours into it, so I haven't tested it's longevity yet, but for $20 it seems like I will defiently get my moneys worth, hopefully more.

By the way, of course, Nethack is more or less still alive! Also, there's a similar game (the Windows remake of the C64 original): Sword of Fargoal (random generated levels, very high replay value!!!), which my sister's boyfriend has been spending hours playing with!

Furthermore, if you like such retro-style, out-of-current-main-stream, adventure-action-puzzle-roleplay-strategy-all-in-one games, try Colobot (and its sequel, CeeBot) and Darwinia, too.

sorry to bring up an old thread.. I'm having trouble with Fate. I copied over the crack fate.exe, but it won't let me save any of my games. I can press "save and exit" but when I restart the game, I have no choice but to start a new character. There is no Continue, only New Game.

Any help?? please?

u said u figured it out how. pls help. how did u solve it. am still not able to save the game pls. i am using crack ver 1.21

People just create a folder SAVE in main Fate directory
then play the game
then save and exit
and when u again reach main page
ull find continue
