Newbie Question! (sorry guys!!)

Sorry people you must have had this question a thousand times!! Shout at me if ya want!! here goes:-

I'm due to have my UK Pal PS2 chipped next week by someone who i know locally that does 'em. I'm not sure what chips he's using but I'd say Neo 2.2 or 2.5 more than likely. Can I Play Original US imported games eg. MGS2?? Or is their any chip that will do this yet? (or soon)

Thanx for any help!!

Hi,

My mate Charlie who is also on the fourm is sending me an original NTSC game so i can try and boot it on my NEO2.2 modded PAL ps2, at this moment in time i would say no but if i can do some sort of swap to boot then ill let you know.

I think the only chip that does it at the mo is the NEO4. Check out www.playstationmods.com

Also i suggest you find out what chip this guy is putting into your system, otherwise you may run into some problems.

Cheers

Dal

Cheers Dal,

I've just been having a look at the Origa chip which promises to do it,
but the chips £45 or summin so i doubt that the guys using them chips as he's only charging me £20 for the chip and installation!!
I just looked at the NEO4 aswell and I can't see were it say's it plays imports

Please let us know how you get on with the yours though?

I'm gonna find out off the guy to see what chips he's using.

And here's another newbie question!! :- How do I know what Version Pal PS2 I have? is it the SCPH30003 number on the back of my machine? I assume this means I have V3?

The answer to your original question is that the Origachip for PAL will play your US import original. It's well worth the investment because it immediately doubles the capability of your PS2. NEO4 is crap - 44 wires (so it may not work if your fitter makes a mistake) and it doesn't do what you want.

I don't have a UK PS2, but the final "3" means it's UK PAL. "0" means Jap; "1" means US; "4" means Europe; "2" means Australia.

Cheers Charlie!

Looks like i'm gonna be gettin me pennys out!

Is the Origa hard to install (on comparison to other chips)?
I might have to get someone more professional to do the installation for me if the guys not that confident.

Any suggestions?

Again thanx for all the help! sorry for all the questions!!

The OrigaChip isn't particularly easy to install as it has 15 wires (it needs more than 8 to do the extra work). But it's easier than NEO4. Madeira Games will supply it and fit it, but that will set you back £115, including the courier service. A soldering whizzo can do it if competent with 1mm tip and wire. The investment is sound if you want to play import originals.
