Jack The Ripper - funny CD check

Hi. It's me again, the Old Game Crack Requestor. My next wish is:

Jack The Ripper

To anyone who dares challenge this game - it has virtually NO protection - 'cept the dumb, irritating CD check. Jack.exe cannot be run directly, it refuses to function. The only way to run it is through Launcher.exe - and the Launcher file asks for CD. No surprises here, because Jack.exe is located in the root directory of the CD and is not installed with the game - it has to be copied manually. But even when I do this, Launcher.exe still requires the CD and when the disc is inserted, it runs Jack.exe from the CD. Can anyone make the file use the Jack.exe copied into the game folder?

Attachment:

Launcher.exe
Jack.exe

-----------------------------------------------
Oh, and by the way - I am a proud owner of the original game release, not some warez crap.

My version don't have Jack.exe or Launcher.exe. After installs does \Anim
with Jakintro.exe and \Game with Ripper.exe. In the root was a created
Jack.bat under installation that call the exes.
Becouse i always make a backup Image from my original games, i played this
from a mounted image, that needed to play this game. I found this installed
game+image on my sister's PC some days ago, so i didn't tried this game
before. I uses RUN WITH VDMS on the Jack.bat and runs fine.

EDIT
I downloaded your attached files and seems your version was v1.0.0.1 from 2003 that was out a
remaked 2003 version, not from the original in 1995...

Jack the Ripper from 2003 is not a remake of the 1995 game. It is the fictional sequel to real events from London, the game tells the story of Jack escaping to New York and going on a killing spree in there.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/jack-the-ripper
and
http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/jack-the-ripper-
I have the original boxed version of the game that was released/copyrighted
(c) 2003/2004 by Galilea/The Adventure Company and confused the old one.

Don't be sorry, everyone makes mistakes. Hell, I have both Rippers and it could be confusing... But Galilea's Ripper is the one with a real twist, I recall some attempts to create a fictional sequel to the London events, but this game is the first SUCCESSFUL attempt to create such sequel.

umm..by just taking a quick look, I notice a common cmp for CD and of course that nice string asking for the disc, shouldn't be that hard but I can't test it since I don't have the game

If so just change it to CMP for 5.

How's it going, Joe?

EDIT: Thanks to the crack by PAKHAN, the game runs fine without CD now. There is just one problem:

The desktop shortcut had to be changed to point Jack.exe instead of Launcher.exe. The Launcher.exe still remains uncracked!

BTW, the installation instructions are all messed up! One does NOT need to copy anything from CD. All that one needs to do is to extract the Jack.exe file from the archive into the gamedir after installing the game.

Try applying this patch onto Launcher.exe: http://sta.c64.org/shared/JACKRIPR.ZIP. (then it will search for Jack.exe in the current directory rather than the root directory of any CD-ROM drive.)

Thank you so much, Joe. Now, the crack is fully complete.

EDIT: I repacked the archive and created a small NFO. You could replace these two archives from the site by this one:

Jack.the.Ripper.NoCD.Fixed.EXE-GCW

Here is the nfo:

Quote:
================================================== ===
Game : Jack the Ripper
Jack.exe cracked by : PAKHAN
Launcher.exe cracked by : JoeForster/STA
================================================== ===

Instructions:

1. Install the game - Full Installation.
2. Copy Jack.exe and Launcher.exe to the game folder.
Overwrite Launcher.exe when asked.
3. Play without any of the two CDs inserted.

(c) 2007 GameCopyWorld. Usage with warez versions
is prohibited.
