Install The Sims 2. Install the update from http://www.thesims2.com instead. Install any expansions you have in their release order.

Most likely that won't work either. I know when this happens, but it's the mods job to decide if they want to close the thread or not.

Unable to read from the disc? Perhaps, your disc is damaged. Try copying all the files off of it with a file manager (FAR Manager or Total Commander); also, hold the disc against the light and watch for scratches.

...or simply use your original discs to install.
(When the "University"-Expansion ask for Sims2-CD4 it checks for original dics and cancel if it's a backup.)

Yup, GLH just pointed why. Only if the disc ain't original or an imperfect copy, the update cancels the install. Sims2 can have backups with the right tools, as long as you make the backup from your original CDs/DVD. But I prefer to play it from my DVD. Less headaches. Hope they will do a release as they did for the original Sims(see the complete collection). I have enough fans in the house(mainly females ).

Yeah that happened to me too. The computer didn't even relize that anything was in the drive. I had to go and buy another CD. You could go to the website, www.thesims2.com , go to the help thingy, and look up your problem and then they'll tell you what to do. No guarantee that it will work though.
