games won't play on slimline ps2

Hello all
i have just purchaced a brand new slim ps2
I also have an older ps2
My older original games will not play on my new ps2
I get a message saying insert a ps2 format disk or some thing like that
it is as if i'm trying to play a copied game.
I hired a few newer games from the video shop and they work fine.
Anyone know why this would be happening
Thanks any advice appreaciated

I am not aware of any compatabilty issues regarding the laser reading older titles. If the older games are not damaged or scratched then they should be working. Do you suspect a defective drive? Any problems playing dvds? (Older title dvd's) You could try cleaning both the games and your laser and let us know if this makes any difference.

Very strange...
Try them on another slim PS2. If that doesn't have a problem (as I suspect tbh), then take the slim PS2 back to where you purchased it from.

i just got a new slim and found out too that it wont play very many of the older games. I reburnt them to another dvd-r and they work. so i dont know if its the media, scratches or what. but i am using the same burner, software as i have always.
