PS2 acted weird

Okay, I've had problems with my PS2 before, but I sent it off, and it has been working good, although lately it's been acting weird. Today I put in my Okami copy, and it made some clicking noises(had this problem in the past, although this time it's different). It made the clicking noises for a few seconds, then started up. At first, it said please put in a PS2 disc, so I restarted the system, and then the game booted. Once the game booted, it was skipping quite a bit. After this, I took the game out, unhooked my ps2, cleaned off the dust that had collected on it, and rebooted, upon which the game worked just fine. What I have been noticing is that if I don't play my ps2 for a few days, and then start, it makes a clicking noise, but only upon the first start up, and then it works fine. Any idea? I'm wondering if it's dirty because I keep it in a tv stand that has an open back and has a tendency to get real dusty.

Could be a dirty laser... or it may be starting to die. Either way, it's the laser unit at fault.

Crack the lid off and get some cotton buds with some cleaning alcohol and a tin of compressed air. That should clean up the optics a treat - and if it was dirty a dirty laser you shouldn't have another problem. If it continues, then replace the laser unit

Hey, thanks for the info -- would you happen to know where any guides are that show how to do this? My brother knows how to open the system, it's just I've never done anything like this before. I've already sent it off once, so I want to try and not go down that road again, you know, just cause of the money.
