I'd check the mainboard fuses first mate - it sounds like you've blown a few.

just to be sure i did this right, i used a thick wire for both the ground and 3.3v connection, was i not suppose to use the thick wire for the 3.3v? and for A-I i sort of stuck the wires in the holes then soldered them down, is that a prob to?

If I were you, i'd do the following:
  • Take the chip out and clean the install up as best you can.
  • Test. If things don't improve, check for solder splashes/bridges.
  • Check Mainboard Fuses (marked 'PS#'). If you get little to no resistance, they're good - any higher and you've got some blown fuses which will need to be replaced.
Unfortunately, it sounds as if some damage has been done to the machine, so you may have to send it in to be repaired if you can't do this...

For the minute, you're choice of wire seems to be the least of your worries.

a little update i went a checked for some bridges and now i get audio! but still no disc loading that must be with wires A-I right? and also F is optional isnt it? says F for dvd-rws only do i really need to install that wire?

edit!
i pretty kuch figured it out. the disc wasnt spinning because the shell wasnt anchored down enough. i held it down with my hand and the games booted no problem. im very relieved it wasnt anything serious

Not necessarily...
I think you've blown a mainboard fuse which is why the drive simply doesn't spin. You need to check them using the guide I mentioned above.

If all check out, then you can start to suspect wiring, but even crossed or dodgy wires rarely cause a drive to not spin up at all...

its ok now though, the sound wasnt working because of a bridged wire and the disc wasnt spinning because the case wasnt on all the way and it was preventing the disc from being able to spin when it was actually trying to, i fixed that and i dont have any problems now

EDIT: Didn't see your edit & Everything's fine now... So you can ignore me

Anyway, which discs don't boot? Original/Backup PS1/PS2 DVD Video etc?

Do you see the 'Matrix' logo on initial power up of the machine, or does it boot straight to the 'Sony Computer Entertainment' intro video as per usual?

As for the F wire - if its for DVD-RW and the diagram states it's optional, then you don't necessarily have to install it if you don't want - but for the sake of one wire you may wish to consider it anyway...

P.S - Yes, A-I on v15 are the authentication points on the C/DVD Controller, but if you dont see the Matrix intro screen and cannot disable the chip or access the chip BIOS etc then the problem is deeper rooted than a simple wire switch.

Another important point to consider is the fact there are 2 sub-revisions of v15 - the GH-051-02 and the GH-051-51 - make sure you're using the correct diagram by checking the serial number on the board itself against the diagram you're using...

ok something weird just happened. first to answer your questions yes i see the matrix logo on the screen before i got the browser, and im on the correct diagram im aware of a and b

i was just playing a backed up game for about 3 hours and it suddenly froze on me so i tried reseting wich it didnt do so i unplugged it. when i turn it back on it powers up and the disc spins i just dont get any screen (its still showing my blue video screen) not switching it over like the ps2 is powered on, i rechecked the wires there all on there good still, not sure why this happened or how to fix it

EDIT

that was odd i just unplugged it for a while and then it fired back on and it works fine again, guess it just over heated?

This could also be a bridge. First make sure the fan is working correctly. If so then check the install again

Yeah... Just check that your fan is plugged in and powers on with the system. Also, check that your wiring is as short as possible and not blocking any ventilation holes...

This may sound a little daft, but just check the continuity of your connections over. You may have a dry joint in there, which after a bit of use has completely dried out.

Also, just make sure that nothing is grounding out on the chassis etc.
