PLEASE HELP!!!!

I got a ps2 just a little while ago, a SCPH-15000 model from Hong Kong, and i'm having real problems trying to get backups to work on it. After trying the swap trick, which never worked (a friend who can do it perfectly also tried and failed), I bought myself a chip, which an electrician put in for me, so it has been put in properly. Still no luck, after booting the PS2 with my 1.01 Utility disc, the drive ejects, I stick in the backup and get a black screen when it tries to load. The cd also stops spinning. I'm not doing anything like not applying patches, and the discs that i'm using are good quality. If anyone can help me out here, i'd really appreciate it.
