NTSCONV
Hi all,
I tried using ntsconv to convert a pal .bin image to ntsc but it didn't seem to work. It reported finding some Pal Hex's and that it converted them and the VMODE to ntsc. But when I loaded the game, the screen was all messed up (typical of an unpatched pal game) and the funny thing is that the intro movie was displayed properly (in ntsc I assumed) while the menu screen was in pal. Does this tool work at all? its available at many ps2 sites including gamecopyworld.com so I thought it would work. Do I need a ntsc patch for this game instead of using ntsconv to get this pal game to work? I also saw many postings from the UK gamers that they used some SCART lead or something to play NTSC games on their pal tv. I'm in US and has a NTSC tv (non-multi) and I'm not sure if there's such a SCART lead thing in US. I did find a Pal-NTSC converter but it costs $200. Anyway, please let me know if there is a way to play pal games without getting that $200 converter or a multi-system tv. Thanks a lot

Yeah - there's bound to be fully loaded scart lead in the whole of the USA. Describe the problem in Radio Shack, Electronic Boutique or Walmart and you'll get what you need for $10.

The scart lead is a 21 pin job at the TV end. It's a sort of square port perhaps 1½" wide by 3/4" high. It may well be that US TVs don't have this port and you would then have to rely on the S-Video or A/V ports. If that's the case it's patching (which I've never got working) or a convertor (which I have only NTSC to PAL).
Having just looked up US TVs on the web, I fear thismight be the case. Sorry.

Yeah well thanks again. I never got any kind of pal to ntsc patching to work. I remember I once tried patching SF3 pal to NTSC with a NTSC patch and it didn't work either... needed a clean image or something? dunno... this is the first time I tried using ntsconv and it appears to have gotten part of the job done
 So I guess the other one .. NTSC -> Pal converter probably doesn't work all that well either... Oh well hopefully they will release robotwars here in US. I love that show hehe...

My NTSC to PAL convertor is absolutely perfect. When I play NTSC games to my PAL TV I connect via the convertor; when I play PAL games, I connect direct from the PS2 (and that's an NTSC PS2!).
The other way round will work in the same way. You'll play PAL games with the convertor attached and NTSC games as you are. My convertor which works at the AV level (as well as RF) cost only $70 equiv. What a rip off $200 for the other way round.
