Ive got a problem that i cant solve and dont know how to solve. I have to open my cabinet side of my pc because my pc overheats. And i dont know if its the Psu thats it weak or if its the cpu fan that is weak. Ive got a P4 3.2Ghz socket 478 1024mb pc3200 ram 360w Psu Ati radeon 9800Pro 128mb and 2 80mm cooling fans. So if someone got the same problem or knows how to solve it plz help me out thanks.

Get Lavalys Everest - or any other hardware monitor software; perhaps, you got one on the motherboard installation CD! - and see the temperature of different hardware components. I would say, though, that such a problem needs a repair shop rather than "remote doctoring" over the Net...

The CPU fan could be clogged up with dirt, having a side case open does more harm than good as it will draw in more dust and stour.
Also there is a chance the heatsink compound has dried up to long exposure to heat and heat transfer from CPU to heatsink isnt flowing 100%. And yes it could be a faulty PSU, if not giving out enough power, the motherboard etc will force the PSU to work harder to get it which will overheat the PSU. |
