my mate has a mouse problem which he blames me for cos i played game while he had pee. anyway i have tried to fix it to no avail. tried another ps2 mouse so it aint the mouse itself. reinstalled the driver so it aint that. bought and install a cordless mouse and keyboard which plugs into usb but even that doesnt fix it either. then last resort i reinstall windows xp too but no. even have problem moving around in the bios.
does anyone have any good suggestions except go and buy him a new pc cos i will buy myself a xbox360. he aint that much of a friend and he'll pay me if i sort it

Interesting, why wouldnt the USB one work either, im asuming you did remove the PS2 one before putting in the USB mouse. And you removed the PS2 mouse while the computer was OFF. never take it out while on, you can ruin a PS2 port that way.
Now if the reinstall of windows didnt work (It HAS to be a fresh install and not a over the top of a previous install) then you may have to look at the motherboard causing problems with the IRQ used for the mouse. |

i take it you didnt plug the usb mouse in the PS2 port right? (some usb mice come standard with a convertor to PS2 plugged in already).
If you did the clean windows install (as DABhand said) and the PS2 port doesnt work, fine you could've taken it off with pc on and busted it, but doesn't make sense why a usb mouse plugged in a usb port wouldnt work.

Does anyone know if the Laser Mouse 6000 v1.0 from Microsoft is PS/2 compatible??? Cos I have the same problem with my mouse. In the USB-Port the mouse is working but not in the PS/2-Port. Does the Bios have anything to do with it???

Yea DABhand is right about both unplugging the PS2 mouse while the power is on and about a fresh install of windows....Unplugging a PS2 mouse or keyboard while the computer is on can result in not only frying your PS2 port but it can also fry the entire motherboard...Best of Luck!!! |
