Recomendations...

I recently purchased a game cube and I don't know what chip is favored among the FF members. I trust the veteran members opinions very much on this forums. There seems to be some good ones out there, (Qoob, Xeno GC etc....) I just am not sure what the comparisons are. I want something that will load my backups and that's about it. Something direct boot. I'm also going to get a case mod as well. I'm pretty knowledgeable in the PS2 scene, I know that the Infinity, Crystal, and DMS are the favored PS2 chips, I'm just a complete Noob when it comes to the Cube. Wow I accidently made a rhyme.

No replies??? Hmmm. Safe to assume that no one here has a preference in chips?? Or are there not that many people in the GC backup scene?

Well....it seems that I am talking to myself here, but I decided to go with a qoob pro. Hopefully, I didn't make a mistake in my choice. Anyone here that is willing to help a new figure out this Gamecube backup scene feel free to reply. Thanks.

Just not as many as the PS2 or XBOX scene, but a lot less.

I modded my Gamecube with a Qoob Pro and it works great.

Well good to hear that someone is having success with the qoob pro. Question though...did you have to adjust the pots on your laser to get it to read backups? I was reading somewhere that this is a comment thing in the Gamecube scene. Whereas if you have to adjust your ps2 laser, your console is on it's last leg. Just wondering.

If your 'cube is fairly new you shouldn't need to adjust the pot, but if it's apart anyway it's prolly worth checking it. If it's too far out of spec the 'cube will have trouble reading burnt discs. You haven't gone wrong with the Qoob pro, it's a quality piece.

No need to touch the laser pot because I used the recommended Ridata G04 mini dvd-r discs to burn all my backups successfully.

UPDATE: I have the qoob pro and a custom case but have yet to install them... However, in the meantime I purchased a action replay max drive pro, and backed up some of my originals via the softmod method. Burnt using Nero onto some fujifilm mini-DVD-R's. (Not the greatest of media I know) But the cube booted them up just the same. So I'm guessing my laser is in fine shape for backups. Just can't wait til I get the mod installed and the custom case so I can use my ritek GO5's which are better and cost much less. Thanks for all the help on here.
