Bubble Bobble + Rainbow Islands (Xplosiv)

Does anyone remember this title from a couple of years back? Being a retro fan I bought it out of interest back then.

I think it may have been so low-key that it didn't receive as much attention protection-hacking wise as many other games did. It's a shame because it doesn't really need to have CD protection considering all the game files are in one 27Mb setup.exe anyway.

According to Protection-ID both game exes are protected with SafeDisc v3.15.010. I looked all round the web but couldn't find a No-CD crack anywhere. So is GameJackal the only solution for now?

Cheers for reading this.

(In the meantime, get VICE and play the C64 version of both games... Damn, I just LOVE being on-topic...! )

Lol, thanks, but nah, I already use VICE and that for that sort of thing.

If none of the crackers here have it, Xplosiv sell it directly from their site for a dead cheap price (though of course you'll have to find out for yourself just how much shipping will come to in your area). It shouldn't be too difficult, what with it being SafeDisc and all!

Create a mini image and mount it using alcohol or daemon tools.

ARGH, this mini-image making thing is such an irritating load of piss!

I followed the CDFreaks guide (for Safedisc CDs) to the letter, and yet no matter whether I cancel after 2Mb or 50Mb, I never seem to get the full TOC nor the right amount of copy protection for a mount to work with this game, so the thing never works when mounted through Daemon Tools (4.0). Obviously it works with a full image, but I would've thought it'd be easy to make a mini-image out of this fairly old title which shouldn't be as bad as most games of today?

ISO Director didn't work either, using with a full image just produced a 55Kb file that did nothing for me through DT. Had some silly problem with filenames too, according to the readme.

Yeeesh.

Newer safedisc version need a full image to be validated through daemon tools (normalle intruduced with safedisc 4). Maybe your scanner detects the wrong version.

Nope, both Protection-ID and ARay Scanner say Safedisc 3.15.010.

Although I discovered that it starts getting the TOC right if i stop the image-making at 300Mb (I'll have to try a 250Mb attempt another time), whereupon everything works as it should.

They probably injected a hidden dummy part before the TOC on the disc, seeing as Explorer claims the disc to take up over 650Mb when there's only about 30Mb+ visible on the disc or so.

You know, I only just discovered that there's a tool on GameCopyWorld called "Mini-Image Ripper". Looks a bit old but hopefully it might help with this obscure game, right? Failing that, is there some generic patcher for Safedisc 3 in general nowadays?

I should probably point out that it appears Xplosiv no longer sell this title anymore, so eBay would be the best bet in future.
