Sorry lufcfan but I wrote the previous post from my experience and I've gave reason why. On the other hand you were talking about modern media and modern burners but you forgot that we're talking about an OLD DVD reader the PS2 (mine 4 years old) and that a decent PC DVD-Drive wouldn't have any problems. If I would have time I'll post a speed graph of my burner at high speed.

PS. My DVD ReWriter is NEC_2510A.

Sorry for adding a possibly stupid note but, as far as I've been told, the laser in the PS2 is not calibrated to be able to read recordable CD's/DVD's and one the functions of a modchip is routing more power to the laser diode (which is why it gets killed earlier than on an unmodded PS2)...

Actually the modchip doesnt have anything to do with it. A Stock, unmodded PS2 will play a dvd movie backed up on dvd-r. It has to do with the laser having to focus harder to read dvd-r media so it burns up faster when cheaper media with low reflectivity is used.

I'm trying to spare with the laser of my (relatively new, only one year old) PS2 so I had it modded with a DMS4 Pro and added a hard disk to it. Before I found WinHIIP, I burnt test stuff and tools onto CD-RW's (A-grade TDK, Plextor PX-708A) and tried to read them in the PS2. It hardly worked; I managed to have small stuff - like ToxicOS update - read it about once every five tries. I think the reason for it was that the only available burn speed was 10x; probably, 4x would've worked better, but I can't find such CD-RW's anymore for testing...

I use DVD decrypter to make back ups of both movies and PS2 games.
They both work 100% never had any problems and if i might add i used CHEAP princo Dvd-R and so far running on 4 year now 0 problems!

Think it must be your copy or whatever cause it should work and run smooth!

Smile My NEC ND-2510A Speed Graph

Here is why I use the lowest speed to burn movies on DVD_RW for my unmodded old PS2.

Speed Graph of the NEC ND-2510A burning at MAX speed (8X)

As you can see from the graph, the speed of the burner starts at 4X thus if I burn at MAX 4X there wouldn't be any changes in speed while buring => no movie playback problems with my PS2.
