General wisdom on this forum is to use a modchip rather than a USB game enhancer. Reason is that the modchip gets to the parts that need modding whereas the USB version, being stand off the motherboard, is said to miss a trick or two. My modchip is from modchip.com (the 8 wire version) and works perfectly using a swap trick for both PS1 and PS2 backups. PS1 backup requires an original PS1 game to boot then swap in the backup you want to play. PS2 backup play requires (in my case for the first modchip version a Jap Boot Disk or any Jap original PS2 game) in the present modchip version Game Shark 2 (US) or Action Replay 2 (PAL) for the boot stage. That should sort you out.
