hey
ive been through alotta hdd's... and i've been thinkin more and more recently
i finally came up with the epiphany that i need some sorta device that can turn my hdd's off when i dont need them, and can just turn them on when i do want to use them
i just stumbled upon usb drives.. and wondered y i didnt think of it before
is this the only option?
or am i missing somethin else that should be right in front of me?
do usb drives run well? or is there lag or something?
thanks!

Hey mang..
I have a WDC 160 gig USB i'm using as a backup.. Been using it for a long while now.. Hasn't even messed up on me.. I think shutting it on and off though could be just as hard as letting it idle. Those hard drive fans are supposed to add a lot of life to your internal IDEs also.. Or so I've heard. If you can't afford the USB package you can opt for the enclosure.. You get the standard IDE and hook it up inside an encluse.. Basically just an IDE to USB adapter with an external power source. I have a stripped down version of that.. Basically all it is, is a raw IDE to USB connector and an external power 4 pin power supply. It leaves the hard drive bare but I was just using it to transfer ps2 games onto the hard drive. It works pretty well too.. Transfer times are pretty good. Don't really notice a difference with mine.. Good luck brotha.
